Notting Hill Genesis has been Barnet Council’s chosen partner on Grahame Park since 2004 and to date we have completed building nearly 700 new homes, whilst there has also been a new Further Education College built and also new offices for Barnet Council are nearing completion.

Since the Mayor of London directed Barnet Council to refuse our previous planning application in February 2018, NHG have been working hard to develop plans for a new scheme to ensure that:

  • we meet the Mayor’s new policies
  • continue with the aspirations of both the Council and local residents to create new Grahame Park neighbourhoods, which are not seen as isolated estates, and
  • provide a range of housing for everyone, including existing secure tenants. The new plans will also include how we will reprovide the community facilities in the area.

Consultation

Following extensive discussions with both LB Barnet’s planners and GLA officials we are now ready to begin formal consultation in the run up to a new planning application which we aim to submit in July 2019. 

We are holding two events in 2019, where local residents can meet members of the design team, including NHG staff, to hear about the plans and ask questions.  

These sessions are the first of two planned public consultation events, where more detailed plans, taking into account the comments from the first consultation, will be available before the planning application is submitted.

What happens after the consultation finishes?

If the planning application is accepted this time, then we hope to begin building in 2020 with the first new homes being completed in 2022/3.  The plan is that these will be all affordable homes to allow the remaining secure tenants in Plots 10-12 to be rehoused first.  Barnet Homes are undertaking Housing Needs Assessments of secure tenants so that we build the right size of accommodation for them.  

Barnet Home’s temporary tenants should continue talking to Barnet Homes about their housing needs.  Freeholders and leaseholders should continue discussing their options with our team at Grahame Park in regards to buybacks, shared equity or shared ownership.
