Outreach Barnet partnered with Genesis Housing Association to host a great finale event to close Black History Month on 31 October.
Over 100 customers, support providers and members of the community enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment, music and activities at the Grahame Park Community Hall in Colindale to celebrate the history and achievements of African and Caribbean people in the UK.

Barnet’s Mayor, Councillor Brian Salinger, Councillor David Longstaff and Councillor Agnes Slocombe were among the crowd of people enjoying the event. The Mayor gave a short speech on the diversity he was witnessing in Grahame Park. The event was organised by Genesis in partnership with Outreach Barnet, Homeless Action in Barnet and the Grahame Park One Stop Shop .

Guests enjoyed the delicious different range of cuisines served, followed by activities including a Black History Month quiz, a raffle that included great prizes that were kindly donated from local businesses and support workers, African dancers showcasing Ugandan traditional music and clothing, a henna artist that created beautiful designs on the guests and stalls run by service providers including Barnet Wellbeing Hub, Citizens Advice and Advocacy in Barnet.

Grace Adebayo, a Genesis support worker, said: “This event was different from other Black History Month events; people weren’t in their seats they were constantly walking around getting to know each other and checking out stalls”.

Paul Chelvatheebam, Lead Service Delivery Manager at Outreach Barnet, said: “We are proud to present the Black History Month event in the community of Grahame Park. We had wonderful fun and enjoyed every performance and customers gave great feedback. Everyone was impressed and enjoyed celebrating different cultures and diversity.”

Outreach Barnet is a short-term support service that works with people who have housing related support needs.  It is run by Genesis in partnership with Homeless Action in Barnet and funded by Barnet Council.
