The scheme is the essence of what we represent, putting residents at the heart of our business. There has been a lot of investment in social and economic initiatives that will improve the life chances of our customers. Whether you want help finding a job, are interested in volunteering, or you want to start your own business, we can help.
If you are living on Woodberry Down and are looking for a job or an apprenticeship, we can help you. Through our partnership with Hackney Works you can access a free recruitment service run by the Council. Whether you're just starting out, haven't worked for years or you want to change careers, they can advise you. They can find you the most suitable training and help you apply for the jobs that you want.

We are working alongside Active Within, who supports helping the wellbeing of communities.
The ‘Lets get Active’ programme is a group of outdoor fitness classes which are free for local residents. Sign up is via their website which means you can manage the classes you attend and your progress in your fitness and wellbeing. Classes include – Yoga, Box Fit, Bootcamp and a walking group. The sessions are for everyone and welcome all beginner.

Manor House Development Trust (MHDT) and the Redmond Community Centre
We work with MHDT to make sure are lots of activities and chances for residents to get involved in the community.
They are a social enterprise who makes activities for the community from the Redmond Community Centre which they run. It’s open Monday to Friday, with WiFi access and a local library. MHDT deliver a variety of activities that you can get involved in. These include volunteer placements, community events, healthy cooking projects, activities for young people and lunch clubs to name a few.

Woodberry Down Library will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am-6pm.
The library will be used for book groups, library training, library inductions or class visits from local schools outside of these times.

Citizens Advice (CA) service
We provide a Citizens Advice Advisor on-site once a week that offers residents free 1-2-1 support to deal with any debt and welfare advice needed.

We are working with this social enterprise to deliver afterschool classes for our young residents at our Woodberry Down and Grahame Park schemes.
They provide tutoring for pupils of Years 5 and 6 with programmes to improve English and Maths grades for those moving to secondary school. The tutors are university students that are trained and employed to tutor young people.

No. If you don’t qualify for any of our services or programmes we will look to refer you to an appropriate service to help support your needs.
There may be some cases where Genesis residents will be prioritised for our programmes if spaces are limited (such as on a training course) and we are over- subscribed.
You can participate in our programmes if you are a job seeker, you just have to ensure you still meet the terms of the benefit or tax you are receiving for example, if you receive job seekers allowance you must be actively job seeking and able to go to interviews within 48 hours’ notice.
We can support you if the Jobcentre need to know more about the programme you will be participating in.
Yes, most of the time you will be better off. One of our team will carry out better off calculations to ensure this is the case for any job you are considering.
Although we cannot guarantee a paid job at the end of any placement, we will actively work with you to seek paid employment where possible.
The majority of volunteer placements are aimed at our residents; however we do take a number of external applicants on too. Full requirements for each volunteer placement are tailored to each individual role and we would advise you read the specifications on the role profile.
Volunteering hours are flexible and in most cases, your hours can be discussed with the manager recruiting the volunteer.
If you are unemployed and in receipt of benefits, we would advise you talk to your job centre adviser as there may be a cap on the number of hours you are allowed to volunteer.
This depends on your individual circumstances, how job ready you are, and if you are successful at a job interview.
We can support you with becoming job ready much quicker and we can prepare you for an interview to increase your chances of success. If you stay committed and put in the hard work necessary, we are confident you will find work.
Although we cannot guarantee a paid position to any of our volunteers, we will actively encourage and support you in your search for employment during your time with us.
Yes, better of calculations are carried out for those who require them and in Hackney and Barnet we also have Citizens Advice open to local residents where debt advice can be sought.

The aim is to deliver a bespoke service tailored to your individual needs so you will be supported in one or more of the following ways:
- Finding a job that is suitable for you
- Achieving selfemployment or starting your own business
- Assisted with finding an appropriate training course
- Assisted with finding an ideal volunteering opportunity that will give you invaluable experience
Supported with finding a work experience placement (if you are of secondary school or college age).
Our support is dependent upon your individual circumstances and we would assess your needs before giving you support. Examples of ways we can support you are:
- Help you find training
- Help you get into employment
- Assistance with starting your own business
- Advising you on reducing debt
- Help you find a volunteer placement
- Help you find work experience
- Help you access health and wellbeing services
Genesis pays for all programmes that support our customers. You will only need to pay for your travel to and from a programme or for childcare if you need it during the time of the programme.
Support given to look for work, training, volunteering or starting up your own business is totally free to you. What we ask in return is a commitment to take part and turn up to sessions for you to get the best out of the service.
